Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, is under investigation by the US Department of Commerce for potential violations of export control regulations. The probe centers on TSMC's production of chips for Chinese firm Sophgo, which reportedly matched those found in Huawei's advanced Ascend 910B AI processors. Given Huawei's placement on the US trade blacklist, any indirect supply of US-origin technology to the company could constitute a breach of export controls.
